Objectives

The objectives of the course are to emphasize statistical concepts obtained in the discipline of the 1st semester, namely in the comparison of groups.
To highlight the relationship between statistical association and causality. To demonstrate the feasibility of different diagnostic methods according to their properties and, finally, to point out the importance of the relationship between the research question, the structure of an epidemiological study, the methods of measurement and statistical analysis.

Learning outcomes and competences

It is intended that students be able to compare two groups, test associations and correlations. Students should acquire the basics of modeling in statistics, i.e., forecasting models. In the field of diagnostic methods, students should be able to estimate and interpret their validity and reliability. Students should distinguish between the different study designs for implemented and their main advantages and disadvantages accordingly to previous objectives. Finally, it is intended that students acquire competences to judge the causal association.

Eligibility for exams

Practical and theoretical-practical classes are subject to the regime of absences.
Minimum compulsory attendance (75%), in each type of classes.
Students attending the previous school year are not subject to the regime of absences, not benefiting from attendance.

Calculation formula of final grade

Regular season: The evaluation system consists of the procedural method of assessment, summative and discontinuous, spread over three steps: 1st Moment of assessment (T1) - Theoretical test  (quote 0,45), 2nd Moment (P2)  - Practical exam of statiscal analysis with SPSS (quote 0,315) and calculation (quote 0,135), 3rd Moment (A3) - Attendance (quote 0,1) (quotation stratified in relation to attendance, in addition to the mandatory minimum and a maximum of 2 values out of 20 valores).

The approval is made to depend on a minimum grade of 10 marks at any moment of evaluation described T1 and P2. Formula assessment procedure, discontinuous and summative: final assessment = 0,45*T1 + 0,45*P2 + A3. Students often failed in the previous year, but did not have the attendance component. The approval will be according to the formula of final evaluation = 0,5*T1 + 0,15*Calculation + 0,35*Analytical statistics (SPSS), depending on a minimum score of 10 in two evaluation described T1 and P2 (Calculation and Analytical statistics-SPSS).

Appeal chance: Will be submitted to the examination appeals, students without prior approval and which have no more than 25% of faults in relation to the lessons given (taking frequency arising out of or in previous years). This method of evaluation consists of an examination - theoretical exam (T) and a practical exam (P) of calculation and analytical statistics not subject to minimum grade. Students who pass the exam (T) in regular season are exempt from taking the same exam (T) of appeal season. Formula assessment for final exam. Final Exam assessment = 0,5*T + 0,15*Calculation + 0,35*Analytical statistics (SPSS).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Extraordinary evaluation (September):

This evaluation is composed by a theorectical exam (T) and a practical exam of calculation and analytical statistics in SPSS. Minimum remarks are not require.
Final classification=0,5*T + 0,15*calculation + 0,35* analytical statistics in SPSS.
