Objectives

Know the main psychological dynamics and processes with implications in orthodontics.

Reinforce the importance of clinical communication, particularly in the clinical practice of orthodontists.

The motivation for and during orthodontic treatment.

Understand how the teamwork, particularly with psychiatrists and psychologists, can be important in the clinical practice of orthodontists.

Learning outcomes and competences

Increased awareness of the need for clinical communication.

Improved skills in motivation and assertive communication.

Improvement of the transdisciplinary approach to clinical cases.

The encounter between different branches of knowledge and transdisciplinarity.

The reasons for requesting orthodontic treatment. Self-image, self-esteem and self-concept.

The consultation/treatment process; motivation for cooperation in patients in different age groups.

The intervention in specific situations - the complementary approach to orthodontic intervention:

- patients with indication for orthodontic-surgical-orthognathic treatment.

- patients with craniofacial deformity

- more frequent types of psychic disorders.
