Objectives

The Occlusion, TMJ and Orofacial Pain II course aims to study the differential diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders as well as the approach of different therapy of these disorders. It also has a highly theoretical and practical part in which students must develop skills in order to fabricate and equilibrate occlusal stabilization splint in semi-adjustable articulator.

Learning outcomes and competences

Skills development in the capacity of differential diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders with syndromes overlapping that present symptoms.

Prescribe an appropriate therapy for temporomandibular disorders, according to the diagnosis performed.

Fabricate and balance of an occlusal stabilization splint in semi-adjustable articulator

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching of Occlusion, TMJ and Orofacial Pain II course is split into interactive theoretical and practical classes, using audiovisual media, with the purpose of transmitting information, facilitate the understanding and interpretation of the literature, as well as to increase the motivation; will also be carried out more practical classes where students must fabricate and equilibrate an occlusal stabilization splint in semi-adjustable articulator.

Eligibility for exams

The frequency of Occlusion, TMJ and Orofacial Pain II course is given by:

-Presence in 75% of classes;

The students covered by special schemes that dispense them from the class attendance, shall complete a written test and an oral test, where the skills needed for approval to the Course will be evaluated.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical component – 45%  (quizzes: 15% and written test: 30%)

Practical component – 45%

Assiduity – 10%

Not being mandatory, students who wish to, can do research work within the curriculum, which will be considered in discontinuous assessment
