Professor Catedrático de Histologia e Embriologia. Eduardo Jorge Sousa da Rocha was born in Luanda, Angola. He now has Portuguese citizenship. Aggregate Title (Habilitation) in Biomedical Sciences, in 2007 by ICBAS - U.Porto | PhD (PhD) in Biomedical Sciences in 2001 by ICBAS - U.Porto | Licenciatura in Aquatic Sciences in 1990 by ICBAS - U.Porto. He received the best student award. He is Full Professor in ICBAS - U.Porto, Principal Researcher - Animal Morphology and Toxicology Team, in the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) - U.Porto, President of the General Assembly of the CIIMAR, Director of the Histology and Embryology Laboratory and of the Department of Microscopy in ICBAS - U.Porto, Local Mobility Coordinator in ICBAS - U.Porto and Member of the Scientific Council in ICBAS - U.Porto. He teaches Human and Comparative Histology and Embryology, Research and Communication Methods, and selected topics in courses on Exposure and Fate of Xenobiotics in the Organism, Xenobiotics and Cancer, and Fish Pathology. Among other research subjects, his main interests are i) pollution by EDCs mimicking sex steroids, ligands of PPARs, PAHs, PCBs, and pesticides, and their effects and mechanisms of action in fish, particularly in liver and gonads, using in vivo and in vitro models, currently in the context of warming; ii) toxicity of bioactive compounds against neoplastic cells. In addition to other works, he published 213 articles in indexed journals and 8 book chapters. He supervised (concluded) 9 PhD theses and co-supervised 9, supervised 19 MSc dissertation (s) and co-supervised 23. Furthermore, he mentored 8 post-doc projects, the last 2 concluded in 2022. He participated as Principal Investigator in 3 projects, as Co-PI in 1 project, and as Team Researcher in competitively funded 16 projects. He is a member of the Editorial Board of 7 international SCOPUS/WOS-indexed journals (including in the field of toxicology). H-index (Scopus) = 39.
