Objectives

The contents were defined in terms of objectives and skills to be acquired by students. The contents include knowledge about the preparation of the patient for anesthesia and evaluation of anesthetic risk as well as the

knowledge of the drugs given for anesthesia. At the same time, students will be able to assess and act in emergencies in dentistry.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the action, the participant should be able to:

Making the victim's approach to safety;

Assess the state of cardiopulmonary arrest, respiratory arrest, the victim unconscious, and know when to seek help
Perform basic approach of the airway, cardiac massage and side position.
Knowledge: Know What are the risks to the rescuer and know how to identify potential sources of danger;
Knowing that there are different causes of loss of consciousness and name them;
Know that there are different causes of cardiac arrest and mention them, know when and how to get help;
Know what you mean you and how it works;
Know how to evaluate whether ventilation is effective;
Knowing the importance of correct positioning of hands on the chest;
Know synchronize ventilation and chest compressions.

Program

• Anesthesia and its history.

• Definition of anesthesia; types of anesthesia.

• sedation.

• Preanesthetic care: preanesthetic assessment of the patient; evaluation of anesthetic risk.

• Consequences of acute postoperative pain: neuroendocrine, metabolic and sympathetic; cardiac, pulmonary and thromboembolic complications.

• Main drugs in acute postoperative pain: opioid analgesics, nonopioid analgesics, local anesthetics. Combinations of drugs in balanced analgesia.

• Analgesia in outpatient surgery.

• Prevention and acting in the most common emergency situations in the practice of dentistry. Asthmatic Crisis Anaphylaxis Syncope Poisoning by Local Anesthetic (LA).

• BLS algorithm application: » Airway Handling with facial mask and laryngeal mask » Using the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

• The Peripheral Venous Catheterization.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures; expository.

Practical classes: includes previous readings, hands on teaching skills and performance in cardiac arrest scenarios using mannequins.

Frequency of a surgical block "internment" and outpatient surgery.

Will be considered for final evaluation of the student, their participation in classes, whether practical or theoretical, through problemsolving and scientific reasons for that same resolution.
