Objectives

The purpose of the course is to help students understand how labour markets work. It is intended to provide students with analytical tools and empirical data that contribute to understanding the behaviour of agents and institutions in the labour markets and their uniqueness vis-à-vis other markets in which microeconomics is concerned.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should be able to identify the main characteristics of the labour markets configuration and discuss the outcomes of social and labour market policies. It is expected that they will be better able to think critically about the minimum wage, income support, working time regulation and anti-discrimination policies. Finally, they should understand the advantages and disadvantages of the incentives that make up the compensation packages for workers.
