Objectives

Enable students to apply previously acquired knowledge of research methodology and data processing to a specific scientific field that requires further study, resulting in the development of a project leading to the preparation of a master's thesis.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the process (final report), students are expected to have:

• clearly identified the research question and discussed the gap they intend to fill (contribution to the scientific literature in the field);

• conducted a competent and comprehensive literature review in the relevant research area;

• identified and justified, in light of the literature and in line with the research question, the methodology to be selected (research strategy to be followed, including the data collection and analysis techniques to be used).

In addition to the three components mentioned above, the dissertation/project/internship plan must also contain a schedule of the work to be carried out.

Eligibility for exams

Important notes:

- Any academic fraud, namely plagiarism at any time during assessment, will automatically result in the student failing the course without the right to appeal and the consequent initiation of proceedings before higher authorities.

- If repeated instances of fraud are proven, the MEGI Scientific Committee may impose the maximum penalty: preventing the student from accessing the dissertation and thus obtaining a master's degree.

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation is continuous and includes:

- Two written reports (Report 2-25%; Report 3 / final - 55%)

- Presentation / Defense of the final report (20%)

Final classification =  0,25*report 1 + 0,55*report 3 + 0,20*presentation/defense of the final report.

Other requirements:

a) Passing the course requires a minimum grade of 9.5 in Report 3 (Dissertation Proposal);

b) Failure to submit Reports 2 or 3 by the deadline, or failure to attend the scheduled session for the defense of the dissertation proposal, will result in a grade of 0 for that assessment;

c) Failure to submit the PowerPoint presentations for the dissertation proposal defense session on the scheduled date will result in a penalty of 1 point on the final grade;

d) Failure to submit Report 1 (on the research topic) on the scheduled date will result in a penalty of 1 point on the final grade;

e) Failure to attend the scheduled session for the presentation and discussion of the topic to be investigated will result in a penalty of 1 point on the final grade;

f) Failure to comply with the page limit will result in a penalty of 1 point on the grade of the respective report.
