Abstract (EN): Cobalt(II) and nickel(II) complexes with 1-(2-carbamylethyl)imidazole (CIm) and halides or pseudo-halides have been synthesized and characterized by a variety of techniques. The following compounds have been prepared: [M(CIM)6]X2.xH2O (M = Co(II) or Ni(II); X = Cl-, Br-, I-, ClO4- and x = 0, 1 or 2), [MX2(CIM)4].xH2O (M = Co(II) or Ni(II); X = Cl-, Br- or SCN- and x = 0, 1 or 2), [M(CIm)4(H2O)2]I2 (M = Co(II) or Ni(II)), [CoX2(CIM)2] ( X Cl-, Br- or SCN-), [NiX2(CIm)2].xH2O (X = Cl-or SCN- and x = 0 or 1) and [NiBr2(CIM)2(H2O)2]. Among these, a variety of stereochemistries has been found. The ligand was found to coordinate preferentially through the pyridinic nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring but, in some cases, amide oxygen coordination cannot be ruled out. Weak magnetic interactions that may result from polymeric structures occur in some complexes.
