Abstract (EN):
Mephedrone is a synthetic ring-substituted cathinone closely related to phenethylamine stimulants. Currently under control in several countries, it is used in recreational settings, marketed as a legal 'high.' Mephedrone shares the pharmacotoxicological features of classical amphetamines. Severe intoxications and deaths are well documented. Clinical management relies only on empirical measures. Confirmation of intoxication demands GC- or LC-MS methodologies for specific screening and quantification of the drug in biological specimens.
