Abstract (EN): The aims of this paper are: to show how the influence of the position of Portugal (climate rate, coastline, continental platform, and ecosystems) limited the Portuguese fisheries to an artisanal-type of fishing; to observe the evolution of political framework from a traditional and fiscal point a view to a real political economy; to analyse the economic signals of one economic organisation; to emphasise the consequences of the oscillations of the international fishing market which sustained a changing of the inland Portuguese fishery in the later XVIIIth century
