Abstract (EN): In contemporary societies, the urgent acquisition of information is vital, reflecting in the (sub)(post)cultural dynamics of youth cultures. However, despite all these urgent needs, there are also attempts to preserve memory and heritage, especially in the Portuguese alternative and underground music scenes. Archives play an important role in structuring self-help projects for enthusiasts that challenge dominant notions of archiving. The democratisation of archives, facilitated by digital technologies, emphasises community-driven initiatives and challenges traditional notions of neutrality. This chapter explores the theoretical, methodological, and ethical dimensions surrounding the preservation of punk manifestations in Portugal, filling gaps in cultural and academic representation. The KISMIF archive represents a pioneering attempt to document Portuguese underground music scenes, revealing previously unknown cultural realities.
