Resumo (PT): A comparative study on the fatigue behaviour of aluminum alloy welded and bonded joints was conducted. The results reported represent the contribution of the portuguese group to the EUREKA project EU 269 - Design of Aluminum Structures under Fatigue Loading. Fatigue testing was performed in butt and fillet welded joints fabricated with aluminum alloy 6061- T651. The specimens tested were of the following types: butt welded joints, non load carrying transverse fillet welded joints, cruciform joints and non load carrying longitudinal fillet welded joints. The specimens were subjected to tensile loading under R=smin/smax=0.1 at room temperature conditions. The experimental data was subjected to a statistical analysis; S-N curves were drawn for each series of tests. A comparison of the fatigue behaviour of the welded and adhesive bonded joints is carried out. Fatigue crack growth tests on 6061 aluminum alloy welded joints were carried out to determine the crack growth rates of a welded aluminum alloy, namely on the base material, HAZ and welded zone. The experimental and theoretical results were compared with the design curves proposed by international codes of practice.
