Abstract (EN): We describe the concept of engineering systems and some key challenges for their design under uncertainty, which we illustrate with two research projects and case applications. We then link this line of work with three important concerns in the design of engineering systems, related to research topics addressed in the Ma- teus DOC II initiative on Risk: financial interactions, human behavior, and regulatory frameworks.
