Abstract (EN): A hazard is considered a disaster when it occurs in a populated area, and therefore brings damage, loss of goods and/or lives, and consequent destruction. The main objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the remote sensing data and techniques applied to natural disaster management. Several types of natural disasters (Hydrological and Geological, Geophysical, Meteorological, Climatological), will be defined and analyzed regarding the different types of remote sensing data used to predict, detect, analyze, and also mitigating these disasters. For each natural disaster/hazard the satellites¿ sensors more used, and the methodologies employed will be described and some studies that contributed to the state of the art will be highlighted. It was concluded that the great advantage of using satellite data is related to the high availability of sensors with adequate to map the spatial distribution of the factors that contribute to a natural disaster. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
