Abstract (EN): Civil Engineering Companies are facing a big challenge: used to traditional technologies, they are being required by large contractors and partners to use Information Technologies, and in particular, Internet Technologies. Therefore, they need to effectively deploy its use, in order to avoid losing competitiveness and market share to other aggressive companies. Case Studies in this area of Industry are hard to find, and practically inexistent as far as SMEs are concerned. The objective of this paper is to describe the model used for one particular Civil Construction Company and all the effective steps undertaken to embed the Internet technology and systems into the company processes and existing business system. This model will comprehend both the establishment of an Intranet and the start of Electronic Commerce activities, such as placing and accepting orders with the main suppliers and customers. The success of this project will inevitably bring this SME into a leadership position in this Industry and will provide an invaluable case study that may be generalised into a portable model for other SMEs.
