Abstract (EN): CD23 is an unique protein functioning as a low affinity Fc receptor for IgE in eosinophils, macrophages and platelets, that mediates cellular cytotoxicity, phagocytosis, adhesion and antigen presentation. As other members of the ubiquitous mammalian C-type lectins, soluble forms of this molecule - sCD23 - have been described, and new findings suggest its functional role in the immune and inflammatory response. In this article we summarize some of the recently described functions of CD23 and its soluble fragments, and the clinical implications and perspectives for the study of this multifunctional molecule in several human diseases.
