Abstract (EN): Radon exposure in thermal spas have been the target of increasing and recent studies in some countries such as Italy, Brazil, Spain, Greece, China, Turkey, but without any development in Portugal. Moreover, the findings in terms of health impacts have not been unanimous and conclusive, once radon and its short-living decay products are the main contributors to natural radiation exposure for general population. The purpose of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the effect on workers' health from the exposure to radon in thermal spas, taking into account the contribution from outside of the occupational environment. The adopted methodology proposes a continuous literature review; the selection of the sites and a group of workers to monitor; the assessment of radon exposure; the acceptability and effectiveness of the developed research; the management and analysis of data and finally, the conclusions and recommendations. The study should provide conclusions on whether the exposure to radon in thermal spas translates into an occupational hazard, its magnitude and the need to implement a radiological protection program reflecting the measures to prevent and minimize the occupational exposure.
