Abstract (EN): The paper presents a study on the long term behaviour of deep excavations in soft clays with emphasis on the effect of the wall embedded depth. A numerical study was carried out considering an excavation in soft silty clays underlain by stiff impermeable clays, supported by an impermeable braced wall whose embedded depth has distinct values, including the one corresponding to the wall tip sealed in the bedrock. By means of coupled finite element analyses, and assuming that time construction is so short that undrained conditions prevail, a comparison is made between the behaviour at the end of the construction and at the; end of the consolidation. The results show that the embedded wall depth has a relevant influence on the evolution of the wall and ground displacements and on the structural stresses during the consolidation. Some conclusions are extracted.
