Abstract (EN): Carotid arteries are a common site of atherosclerotic lesion development. Computational fluid dynamics models suggest that flow disturbances associated with stenosis can contribute to the initiation and progression of vascular wall pathologies. The main goal of this study is to present an investigation on the overall influence of assumptions regarding the outflow boundary conditions in hemodynamics of the human carotid bifurcation. Although boundary conditions affect the temporal distribution patterns of blood flow, our findings show that the distribution of the wall shear stress hemodynamic descriptors is not significantly affected by different distribution of the blood flow between the internal and external carotid branches.
