Abstract (EN):
A total of 177 Portuguese adults were asked to answer a brief screening test designed to assess elderly subjects with cognitive deficits (SLUMS, by Tarik et al., 2006). From a total of 30 points, young and middle aged with a university degree obtained an average of 27,37 (SD:2,26) and 27,46 (SD:2,42); young and middle aged with 6 to 12 years of formal education an average of 25,76 (SD:3,55) and 23,27 (SD:4,59). Middle aged groups with less than 12 years of formal education performed much lower than elderly subjects in the Tarik et al.’s study. Implications of these results are discussed for assessment of elderly subjects with cognitive deficits.
