Abstract (EN): Non-rectangular cores of standard-cell-based reconfigurable logic can be used to fill space left on SoCs, thereby providing hardware reconfigurability to the system. The proposed general core architecture is based on a fixed set of cells that implement logic, routing and switch blocks. The basic cells connect by abutment to form cluster cells and cluster cells abut to form the complete reconfigurable core. A software tool was created to generate a gate-level netlist of the reconfigurable logic core. Cores with nonrectangular shapes were created and validated through simulation. The final result demonstrates the feasibility of a flexible, technology-independent architecture for nonrectangular reconfigurable logic cores, supported by an automatic generation tool and that can be physically implemented using a standard digital design flow.
