Abstract (EN): The wind turbines gearboxes are mainly lubricated with ISO VG 320 gear oils. There are different formulations available in the market and those formulations have differen base oils while the data about their power loss behaviour is almost unexistant. This work presents and compares the power loss behaviour of four different base oils, a mineral, a PAO, an ESTER and a PAG, tested in a planetary gearbox using helical gear tooth. A single stage planetary gearbox with an outside diameter of 240mm (and a speed ratio of 4:1 was tested at low input speeds and high torques (up to 1000 Nm). Differences in the stabilization temperatures up to 15 °C were observed for different oil formulations. The tests at low load showed that the no-load torque loss may have a significant influence on overall power loss. A numerical model was implemented for the simulation of the planetary gearbox power loss mechanisms. The power loss model allowed to understand the relevance of source of power losses in a planetary gearbox.
