Objectives

Making the students conscious of the need for Law History’s knowledge in order to achieve a firm juridical formation.

Learning outcomes and competences

Knowing the bases of Iberian and Portuguese Legal History. These bases will give the skills, which are necessary for a better understanding of all the subjects included in the Law License Degree.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

A basic knowledge of Portuguese History is required.

Program

PART I – ELEMENTS OF IBERIAN LAW HISTORY (continuation of the Law History I´s program): Chapter 1 – The Germanic or Visighotic age. Chapter 2 – The age of Muslim rule and of Christian take-over. PART II – ELEMENTS OF PORTUGUESE LAW HISTORY: Introduction. Chapter 1 – Ages of evolution of Portuguese Law History. Chapter 2 – The age of differentiation of Portuguese Law. Chapter 3 – The age of Roman and Canonical inspiration. Chapter 4 – The age of the framing of modern Portuguese Law.
