Jornalismo de proximidade: a cobertura noticiosa do Jornal do Centro aos incêndios de outubro de 2017 na região de Viseu (Portugal)

Resumo (PT): Portugal tem sido identificado como um dos países mais devastados pelos incêndios rurais. Na última década este fenómeno tem vindo a piorar, não só pela dimensão e brutalidade do fogo, mas também pelas consequências irreparáveis para as comunidades, levando sempre a um interesse especial por parte dos órgãos de comunicação social nacionais e também locais. Em situações de crise, como “grandes incêndios”, à semelhança dos media nacionais, também os media locais portugueses tendem a fazer uma cobertura negativa numa fase inicial. Em fase posterior, o teor é positivo ou neutro, apostando numa abordagem às medidas de precaução e defesa neste tipo de situações. Este estudo de caso descritivo e exploratório permite retirar evidências pertinentes acerca da rotina produtiva dos media locais em situações de crise, como é o caso dos incêndios rurais. Numa análise quantitativa a 24 edições do Jornal do Centro, de Viseu (Portugal), num total de 98 artigos, percebe-se o recurso frequente à notícia, ainda que de grandes dimensões, privilegiando a fonte única, por ser também em termos de rotina produtiva mais acessível e económico. A reportagem não assume expressividade, constatando-se um “jornalismo sentado”. Apesar de estar presente a voz do comum cidadão, são as fontes oficiais que detêm maior atenção, sobretudo as que estão ligadas ao poder local, como as autarquias, e também as fontes relacionadas com o comando dos bombeiros ou as associações humanitárias.

Abstract (EN): Portugal has been identified as one of the countries most affected by rural fires. Year after year, thousands of hectares are burnt and in the last decade this phenomenon has been getting worse, not only because of the size and brutality of the fires, but also because of the irreparable consequences for communities, always leading to special interest on the part of the national and local media. In crisis situations, such as major fires, like the national media, local Portuguese media also tend to give a negative coverage initially. At a later stage, the content is positive or neutral, focusing on precautionary and defense measures in this type of situation. This descriptive and exploratory case study provides pertinent evidence about the production routine of the local media in crisis situations, such as rural fires. A quantitative analysis of 24 editions of Jornal do Centro, from Viseu (Portugal), with a total of 98 articles, shows that there is frequent choice to news, albeit large, favoring the single source, as this is also easier, more accessible and more economical in terms of production routine. There is not a great deal of reportage, which is “seated journalism”. Although the voice of the citizens is existent in the newspaper’s pages, it is the official sources that get the most attention, especially those linked to local government, such as local councils, and sources related to the fire brigade or humanitarian associations.
