Mariana Sebastião Machado holds a Bachelor’s degree (2017), Master’s degree (2020), and PhD (2025) in Criminology from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto. Her doctoral project, "Aggressive Behavior in the Context of Driving: An Application of the Social Information Processing Theory," was awarded a scholarship by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2021.04650.BD).
Her main research interests focus on understanding aggressive behaviors in different contexts and populations, and the role of cognitive and social processes in explaining this phenomenon. Additionally, she has developed work in quantitative methodologies. In this context, she is a member of scientific associations (e.g., International Society for Research on Aggression) and working groups (e.g., European Working Group on Quantitative Methods in Criminology), and has participated in various national and international scientific events. She has also published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in the field of Criminology.
Alongside her research activities, she has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto since 2021, teaching in the Bachelor’s program in Criminology.
