Mariana Sebastião Machado holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Criminology from the Faculty of Law at the University of Porto. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminology at the same institution, and has participated in various European doctoral schools in this context. Throughout her academic journey, she has received several merit scholarships, most notably the Individual Doctoral Scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (2021.04650.BD). Her research involvement includes participation in scientic rojects focusing on various criminological themes, such as the prevention of antisocial behavior in children and domestic violence.

Her main research interests encompass the understanding of aggressive behaviors in different contexts and populations and the role of cognitive and social processes in explaining this phenomenon. Additionally, she has developed expertise in quantitative methodologies, joining scientific associations (e.g., International Society for Research on Aggression) and working groups (e.g., European Working Group on Quantitative Methods in Criminology), and has participated in numerous national and international scientific events. Furthermore, she has published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in the field of Criminology.

Since 2021, alongside her research activities, she has served as an Invited Assistant at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto in the Bachelor's program in Criminology.
