Objectives

This internship/project aims to assess the students' ability to meet the real world research challenges and to promote their professional integration in scientific research institutions as well as in IT companies.

Learning outcomes and competences

During this project students should be able to:

1. be integrated in the company/research institution's work processes;

2. apply the knowledge gained in the first three years of the study cycle in analyzing and solving business/scientific problems.

Working method

Presencial

Program

The internship proposals are provided by companies with which the Department of Computer Science, through the Faculty of Science, maintains cooperation agreements.

The project proposals are created by lecturers and researchers associated with the Department of Computer Science, of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.

These proposals must be validated by the professor(s) responsible for this course.

Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities

Internships will be supervised by the company. The final grade will be given based on the assessment reported by the company and on a final report prepared by the student.

Projects will be coordinated by a supervisor from FCUP. The final grade will be given based on the assessment reported by the supervisor and on a final report prepared by the student.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

designation Weight (%)
Trabalho prático ou de projeto 100,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

designation Time (hours)
Elaboração de relatório/dissertação/tese 90,00
Trabalho de investigação 100,00
Estudo autónomo 34,00
Realização de Estágio 100,00
Total: 324,00

Eligibility for exams

A minimum of 10 points in the final evaluation by the supervisor.

Calculation formula of final grade

The internship/project will be evaluated according to the following directives:

Autonomy with which the work was done
(Information to be provided by the external supervisor)

  • Low - difficult to progress autonomously;
  • Average - some autonomy but with blocking situations that required the intervention of the advisor;
  • High - very good ability to solve problems independently eat intervention advisor focused on defining the next steps of the work.

Satisfaction of objectives
(Assessed by the report and the external supervisor's information )

  • Low - reached to the minimum objectives admissible for the proposed work;
  • Average - the objectives were reached  though not entirely;
  • High - reached up fully, or even exceeded up, the objectives set.

Intrinsic difficulty level of their work
(Assessed by the report and presentation/discussion)

  • Low - relatively easy work, both from a scientific or technical point of view, based on widespread knowledge;
  • Average - work with some high complexity of details requiring more advanced knowledge/expertise, either technical or scientific;
  • High -  relatively complex work, requiring a substantial knowledge and technical skills, or resulting in some innovative contribution.

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The assessment will be carried out according to theßa,e criteria applied to the remaining students.

Classification improvement

There is no process for improving the final classification.

Observations
