Objectives

Understanding the role and procedures performed by network and system administrators in public cloud environments. Familiarization with some general principles and laboratory practice with the implementation and maintenance of some concrete examples of flexibility of critical services in simulated failure contexts and large-scale operations.

Learning outcomes and competences

The course aims to relate theoretical concepts with the installation and practical maintenance of some computational, storage and network services considered essential for cloud-hosted systems.
The student will finish the course with skills in cloud system administration, namely in the creation of VMS, containers, scaling, storage and security.

Working method

Presencial

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and theoretical-practical classes where essential concepts are approached in detail for understanding the innweworks of systems administration tools, which will be used in the management of systems and networks in a controlled simulation environment in the cloud.

Practical classes of a laboratory nature where a network infrastructure, storage and computer services are set up for subsequent application of tools and good practices for installing and administering the services covered in the program.

Eligibility for exams

Minimium grade of 50% in the semester project.

Calculation formula of final grade

Project 60% (minimum grade: 50%)
Final Exam:  40% (minimum grade: 50%)

Final Note = (0.4 * exam + 0.6 * project) * 20

This formula applies to all exams: normal, appeal, special appeal, last year students and grade improvement.
