Objectives
The course "Química II" is for the Chemistry and Biochemistry B.Sc's. The main objective is to provide a solid understanding of the essential chemistry concepts necessary for further applications in other more specialized courses and multidisciplinary courses.
The main topics covered are Chemical Kinetics, Chemical Equilibrium, Acid-Base, Entropy, Gibbs energy, Electrochemistry, Nonmetallic Elements and Transition Metal Chemistry.
Learning outcomes and competences
Ability to apply concepts acquired in practical situations. Ability to analyze simple chemical situations and select the necessary tools to obtain additional chemical information.
The main objective is that the students will be able to identify and interpret simple problems in general chemistry. The presentation and discussion of the topics in the theoretical classes followed by classes where the students solve problems with the assistance of the professor allows them to acquire the necessary knowledge and problem solving skills.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Teorethical classes are essentially lectures. The support materials are available to students in the course platform.
A set of issues/problems are discussed/solved in the theoretical-practical classes.
During the confinement period, all classes are in videoconference using Zoom. Students are evaluated weekly by a short test in Moodle.

Calculation formula of final grade
The continuous evaluation will be peformed by weekly tests in the Moodle (10 tests). The average of the grades obtained in the 10 tests is NQ. For the calculation of NQ, students that miss any of the tests, will have zero as the classification of that test, except if they present an acceptable justification. The final grade (NF) is the weighted average between the the grade of the continuous evaluation, NQ; with a weight of 40%, and the grade obtained in the final global exam (either in the normal exam or in the appeal exan , NE, with a weight of 60%.
NF = 0,40 x NQ + 0,60 x Nm
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Working students may opt for a comprehensive examination.
IN THIS CASE THEY MUST INFORM THE TEACHING STAFF.
Classification improvement
The students that want to obtain a better final grade may take a global exam in the appeal time of exams.
