Objectives
This unit aims that the student acquires the following concepts:
- basic understanding of communication networks and their main protocols;
- information technologies used in healthcare;
- the various telemedicine branches and different considerations in its implementation;
- the latest development in health technologies (from the ICT point of view);
- real world examples of telemedicine usage.
Learning outcomes and competences
The following competences should be attained:
- critical analysis of the advantages and disadvantages on the various perspectives of the usage of technologies in the health context;
- ability to study, analyze and summarize a topic addressed in the course.

- Some lectures will be by invited speakers
- In most lectures we will discuss/present practical examples
- In some lectures the students will evaluate some of the technology described and discuss their shortcomings and strong points

Eligibility for exams
At least 40% on the assignement
Calculation formula of final grade
The evaluation is based on the writing of a survey paper and a final exam (optional).
FG = (WG x 15 + EG x 5)/20
- FG - Final Grade
- WG - Work Grade
- EG - Exame Grade
The students that do not take the final exame, can have at most 15 in their final grade.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Will use the assignement grade of the semester.
Classification improvement
Can only be done for the exam part.
