Objectives
This course offers an introduction to computer security in both theory and practice.Students will develop the skills necessary to formulate and address the security needs in personal and organizational environments. The course will begin with a description of security goals and mechanisms, motivated by recent security incidents.Topics will include cryptography, authentication, secure communications, secure storage, access control and practical examples of these technologies.
Learning outcomes and competences
To understand the fundamental concepts of information security management, namely risk analysis, security policy and security mechanisms.Distinguish authentication and authorization and explain the most common authentication and access control mechanisms. To know the most relevant cryptographic components and their purpose, understanting theit application contexts in real authentication and communication systems. To understand the need for digital certification and recognise the components of a PKI and justify their importance for the security of today's computer systems.
