Objectives

Aims:

- Students shoud aquire knowledge about the various families of organic molecules in what concerns their nomenclature, reactivity, reaction mechanisms and methods of synthesis.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should
- understand the relationship between structure and reactivity of organic molecules and be able to predict reactions of the different families of compounds;

- be aware of the presence of organic chemistry in their dayly life (medicine, novel products/materials, etc.).

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical lessons will be presented in Power-point. Slides will be provided to the students in advance.

TP lessons: resolution of problems featuring the topics of the theoretical lessons.

Students shoud participate actively in the lessons. Therefore, the teacher will exemplify the resolution of the exercises and then the students will resolve the remaining exercises by themselves, in place and in the blackboard, beeing evaluated for their performance.

There may be some homework to do for the next lessons, students will be evaluated in this item too.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Eligibility for exams

T and TP lessons: Attendance is mandatory for this unit.

Participation in TP lessons, realization of 5 tests and final exam.
The minimum grade necessary in each test will be established by the teacher and may not be the same for each test. Only students who pass one test (grade superior to the minimum grade established for this test) are allowed to procced to the next test, and so on.

To be approved FM (final mark) must be ≥ 9,5.

Calculation formula of final grade

Realization of 5 tests minimum grade to be established by the teacher.

Final exam ≥ 9,5
Final mark must be ≥ 9,5

The final mark is determined as follows:

FM = (T1+T2+T3+T4+T5)/5)*0,5 + NE*0,4 + PP*0,1

Classification improvement

FM = NE*0,9 + PP*0,1
