Objectives
This curricular unit aims to evaluate the capacity of a student to perform autonomous, research-level work.
Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this curricular unit the students must:
1. study a research problem and familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art in the area;
2. propose and implement a solution for the problem at hand;
3. write and defend a dissertation that describes this work.

The proposals for dissertation are put forward by members of the Department of Computer Science, or by external researchers, including industry people with which the members of the Department have research collaborations. The proposals are validated by the responsible for the curricular unit.
