Abstract (EN):
Hydrogen can be cleanly produced by the electrolysis of water using electrical energy from renewable sources, being known as green hydrogen. Among the various electrolysis technologies, traditional Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AWE) and Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis (AEMWE) have the potential to avoid the use of noble materials in their components, therefore reducing production costs. AWE technology is mature for large-scale use, whereas AEMWE is a technology with great potential for development, with the main challenge being its high degradation rate. This chapter describes these two technologies, including their applications and market. It also identifies future challenges and opportunities. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
