Abstract (EN):
This chapter is about the vibrations induced by railway traffic, comprising theprediction models, its experimental validation and its application on the analysis ofmitigation measures. Due to the specific aspects of this kind of problems, where verylarge domains need to be considered, a 2.5D approach is adopted in the developing of thenumerical model. Moreover, the ability of the model for dealing efficiently with the traintrack-ground dynamic interaction is highlighted. After the description of the numericalmodel main characteristics, its ability for dealing with real situations is evaluated throughthe comparison between prediction and experimental results for a case study developedby the authors. The experimental activities performed in that case study are presented, being the measurements of the vibrations induced by the train passage compared with thepredicted results. Finally, after the experimental validation of the numerical model, itspotentialities are highlighted namely in the analysis of the efficiency of ballast matsolutions on the abatement of vibrations induced by traffic.
