Resumo (PT): O termo Land Art designa um conjunto diversificado de práticas artísticas que, nas décadas de 60 e 70 do século XX, tomaram a paisagem como suporte de inscrição, veículo de transformação e modelo crítico. Sob esse nome — ou outros, como Earthworks, Earth Art ou Environmental Art — encontramos propostas por via das quais os artistas desafiaram a segurança do cubo-branco da galeria ou do museu para arriscarem transformar a paisagem num lugar de experimentação e invenção. As suas obras, geralmente site-specific, oscilam entre a escala sobre-humana e a pequena escala do um-para-um. No entanto, pela sua natureza ou por opção dos artistas, muitas sobreviveram apenas em registos documentais ou processuais. Do deserto aos espaços urbanos e industriais, da galeria ao museu, a Land Art revela a conjugação de motivações contraditórias e diz-se que expressa, com poucas excepções, uma ideia de paisagem que é fundamentalmente norte-americana.

Abstract (EN): The term Land Art designates a diversified group of artistic practices that, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, took the landscape as inscription support, transformation vehicle and critical model. Under that name — or others, like Earthworks, Earth Art or Environmental Art — we find proposals through which the artists challenged the safety of the white cube of the gallery or of the museum, to risk to transform the landscape in a place of experimentation and invention. Its works, usually site-specific, oscillate between the superhuman scale and the small scale of one-to-one. However, due to its nature or to the artists' choice, many just survived in documental or procedural [processual] records. From the desert to urban and industrial spaces [sites], from the gallery to the museum, Land Art reveals the combination of contradictory motivations and it is said that expresses, with few exceptions, an idea of landscape that is fundamentally North American.
