Resumo (PT): O presente trabalho, que se situa no campo da Linguística Aplicada ao Ensino, dá continuidade a investigação que relaciona análise linguística e textos produzidos em contexto educativo e de formação de professores. A vertente da investigação que está relacionada com a análise textual de enunciados que constituem instruções de prova para os alunos do ensino básico permitiu destacar, entre outras características, a elevada frequência de uso do verbo explicar e os diferentes sentidos associados ao seu emprego, em contexto escolar avaliativo. Alguns desses usos são suscetíveis de criação de mal-entendidos discursivos e pragmáticos, situação associada frequentemente ao insucesso escolar O objetivo deste estudo é contribuir para a identificação desses problemas de uso referentes à expressão e à compreensão de enunciados de avaliação construídos com o verbo explicar. Para tal, constituiu-se um corpus composto por enunciados contendo o verbo explicar na instrução, extraídos de testes de avaliação escrita, e pelos textos de resposta a esses enunciados produzidos por professores e produzidos por alunos. Todos os textos (instruções e respostas) pertencem às disciplinas de Matemática, de Físico-Química, de Biologia, de História, de Geografia e de Português, constituindo os testes de avaliação documentos autênticos, utilizados no ano letivo 2014-2015, do Agrupamento de Escolas de Vilela. O estudo realizado revelou que, para além de haver alguma discrepância entre os valores semânticos e pragmáticos do verbo explicar nas diferentes áreas disciplinares, também se verificam diferenças entre a resposta esperada pelos professores e a resposta dada pelos alunos, resultantes de atribuições de significado divergentes ao verbo da instrução. Esta investigação produziu conclusões relevantes para compreender melhor o problema da falta de compreensão das instruções presentes em instrumentos de avaliação (como testes, fichas ou exames) por parte dos alunos, o que permitirá apontar soluções estrategicamente orientadas para a resolução desse problema.

Abstract (EN): This works, in the field of Applied Linguistics, carries out a line of research that relates linguistic analysis and texts produced in educational context and of teachers training. The dimension of this research which analyses evaluation questions in tests for elementary students enabled us to highlight, among other features, the high frequency of the use of the verb explicar (‘explain’) and its several meanings in an evaluation school context. Some of these uses lead to discursive and pragmatic misunderstandings, situation which is frequently associated to school failure. The objective of this study is to contribute to the identification of these use problems regarding the expression and comprehension of evaluation questions built with the verb explicar. To achieve this aim, we built a corpus with evaluation questions using the verb explicar, extracted from written evaluation tests, and with the answers given by teachers and students. All the texts are from the following subjects: Maths, Chemistry and Physics, History, Geography and Portuguese, and they are authentic documents, used during the school year 2014-2015, in Agrupamento de Escola de Vilela. The study revealed that, in addition to the presence of some discrepancy between the semantic and pragmatic values of the verb explicar in the different school subjects, there are differences between the answers expected by the teachers and the ones given by the students, because of the different meanings attributed to the verb of the instruction. This research produced relevant conclusions to better understand the problem of incomprehension of instructions in evaluation tools (like tests, worksheets or exams) by students, which will allow proposing some solutions strategically oriented to solve this problem.
