Summary: |
Nowadays, and even more, we are witnessing the increasing demand for new treatment technologies that lead to lower environmental impact. In the case of leachates from landfills, the conventional treatment technologies fail to achieve the treated water quality level of the compliant standards of the discharge, and the use of membrane technology is to postpone the problem because only transfers the pollutants to a concentrate that requires further treatment.
In this context, the project AdvancedLFT pretends to fill this gap in terms of leachate treatment systems available on the market today.
The AdvancedLFT will develop a multi-stage technology, with an advanced photocatalytic oxidation step, using solar UV and/or artificial radiation, combined with steps of biological processes, which aim is the removal of non-biodegradable organic substances (such as: xenobiotics, recalcitrant compounds) and promote a substantial improvement in the quality of the final effluent from LWTP, enabling compliance with legal requirements. All of this at a compatible cost with treatment technologies available on the market.
With the validation of the AdvancedLFT technology ?in-situ?, it is expected that this demonstration promotes the interest of the management entity, making the commercialization of this technology easier. Moreover, EFACEC which operates in the environmental area, has a privileged channel in the water and waste treatment markets, not only in terms of potential customers, but also in terms of chain supply of equipments/materials. This technology will be fully developed inside the country, so their manufacture at an industrial scale, is perhaps associated with spreading effects.
Given the above, the AdvancedLFT project is considered strategic for EFACEC because, in addition to the development of an innovative technology with great potential to sell, also allows EFACEC to develop its own and innovative technology which provides the company with new skills. |
