Personal Presentation

Ana M. G. Silva graduated in Chemistry with a specialization in Food Chemistry from the University of Aveiro in 1997 and got her PhD in Chemistry from the same institution in 2002. Following her PhD, she received a Postdoctoral Fellow funded by FCT at the Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro. During her doctoral and postdoctoral studies, she established collaborations through internships lasting 3-6 months with Prof. A. Dondoni at the University of Ferrara, Italy, and Prof. C. O. Kappe at the University of Graz, Austria.

From 2007 to 2025, she held the position of Researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE, from Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto, contributing to the Molecular Synthesis research group. In February 2025, she transitioned to an Assistant Professor role at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), University of Porto.

Her current research interests encompass: (a) synthesis of porphyrins and their analogues, (b) design of novel fluorescent molecules with high discriminatory capabilities for sensing clinical and environmental targets, (c) synthesis of optically active molecules and materials, and (d) implementation of advanced synthetic methodologies for chemical synthesis, including microwave irradiation and Ohmic heating.
