Personal Presentation

Luis Paulo Reis holds a BSc (1993), MSc (1995) and PhD (2003) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (specializing in Informatics and Systems, Industrial Informatics, and Artificial Intelligence/Robotics) from the University of Porto. He is an associate professor with habilitation at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in Portugal and director of LIACC - Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. He is a senior member of the IEEE, PMP certified professional by PMI and has held positions such as president of SPR - Sociedade Portuguesa de Robótica and president of APPIA - Associação Portuguesa para a Inteligência Artificial. He is currently co-director of the LIACD - First Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. He has been principal investigator on more than 20 research projects in the areas of intelligent systems, robotics, machine learning, simulation, interaction, and educational/serious games. He has supervised 24 doctoral theses and 170 master's dissertations in these areas and is currently supervising 12 doctoral theses. He has been an evaluator of proposals and projects for the European programs FP6, FP7, Horizon2020 and Horizon Europe and for national programs from FCT and ANI. Portugal 2020, 2030. He has been an invited speaker at various international conferences such as ICAART, ICINCO, LARS/SBR, WAF, IcSports, SYROCO, CLAWAR, WCQR, ECIAIR, DATA, DelTA, IC3K, and RoboVis. He has organized more than 60 international scientific events and has been on the program committee of more than 300 scientific events. He has won more than 70 awards for academic, scientific, or pedagogical merit. He is the author of more than 500 scientific publications in international journals and conferences.
