Apresentação Pessoal

Mariana Chirea is a Romanian working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Sciences, Chemistry Department,University of Porto, Portugal. She has defended her PhD thesis entitled "Supramolecular Self-Assembly of Gold Nanoparticles: Synthesis, Characterization and Electrochemical Applications as Interfacial Nanostructures" on 6 October 2006, which was approved unanimously by the PhD commission.  Since then she has been working as a researcher paid by FCT on projects focused either on studies of electron transfer kinetics at films composed of spherical nanomaterials and polymers, thiol and nanorods, thiol and nanostars or films of nanodendrites for applications in electrochemical sensing, fuel cells  or energy storage devices. The catalytic activity of nanomaterials in various chemical reactions with industrial applications represents her second research interest.
She has established international research collaboration with several research groups: (1) the group of Prof.
Luis M. Liz-Marzan from BioNanoPlasmonics Laboratory, CIC biomaGUNE, Paseo de Miramon San Sebastián, Spain and Ikerbasque, Basque Foundation for Science, Bilbao, Spain and Prof.Isabel Pastoriza from Departamento de Quimica Fisica, Universidade de Vigo, Vigo, Spain;(2) Prof.Paul Mulvaney from School of Chemistry and Bio21 Institute at the University of Melbourne, Australia and (3) Prof. Carmen Chifiriuc from Organic Chemistry Department, Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science, Politechnica University of Bucharest, Romania.
