The overall goal of this master is to give students a solid foundation and an advanced knowledge in emerging areas of Cell and Molecular Biology. After the course, students will be able to:

• Explain and describe the fundamental processes in cell and molecular biology, how they take place and are controlled;
• Integrate the acquired knowledge from a whole perspective on cell mechanisms, at biochemical, physiological and molecular levels;
• Use basic laboratory skills in molecular biology and cell biology;
• Communicate and work efficiently in a team, prepare and give a scientific presentation, and organize their work according to an agreed time plan;
• Demonstrate capacity to analyze and comment pertinent scientific information;
• Demonstrate awareness of ethical aspects of research;
• Demonstrate an ability to identify his/her need to constantly update and for life-long learning.

Study cycles´s objectives.

• To promote the excellence of advanced formation in emerging areas of Cell and Molecular Biology, through advanced research-oriented training in the modern knowledge frontiers;
• To create conditions for the student to acquire the capacity to conceive, plan and develop scientific research;
• To prepare strong Ph.D. candidates who are well trained and that can be competitive and confident in performing research in international settings;
• To increase the student’s awareness for the possible professional opportunities that a master can offer outside the academic area, as well as the relevance of the knowledge gained as far as social, cultural and technological progress are concerned.

Admissions Requirements

• Degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Biology or Biochemistry.
• Higher national or foreign academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the Bachelor's degree by the Scientific Council in the area of Biology or in related areas (areas with a minimum of 97.5 ECTS in the scientific area of Biology).
• Be the holder of a school, scientific or professional curriculum that the Course's scientific committee recognizes as sufficient to attest the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies. For candidates who do not hold the degree at the date of application, but who are in conditions of completion by the date of enrollment in the cycle of studies, evidence of the curriculum average at the date of application, as well as of the missing curricular units to obtain Bachelor's degree, should be made.

Note: All candidates who do not prove that they have completed the degree (or equivalent) by the end of the enrollment deadline will be excluded.

Criteria for Selection and Ranking

Candidates who have completed, or are in a position to complete by the time of enrollment, a degree appropriate to the area of the Cycle of Study will be ranked first, according to the criteria defined by the Scientific Master's Committee.

Candidates who, at the date of the application, already hold a bachelor's degree will be ranked according to the criteria and sub-criteria detailed below. Candidates who, at the date of the application, do not yet have a bachelor's degree will be ranked according to the same criteria and sub-criteria as the holders of this degree, but replacing the final average of bachelor's degree with the weighted average of the curricular units completed.

Ranking will be performed according to the following criteria and sub-criteria:

• Academic curriculum (formation area and grade) (70%), subdivided in:
  • Sub-criterion 1: Formation area (40 %)
  • Sub-criterion 2: Grade of the degree (25%). In the case of candidates who have not yet graduated, the average grade weighted by the credits of the courses, multiplied by the fraction of obtained credits relative to the total credits of the BSc degree, is considered.
  • Sub-criterion 3: Possession of other degree (Bachelor’s /Master’s) in this Cycle of Study formation area (5%)
• Scientific curriculum and professional experience (30%) subdivided in:
  • Sub-criterion 1: Publications in International Journals in the area of the Cycle of Study (10 %)
  • Sub-criterion 2: participation in research projects, internships in the area of study cycle or other relevant professional experience, duly proven (10 %)
  • Sub-criterion 3: Motivation Letter (10 %)

Tiebreak criterion:
The Scientific Committee may interview candidates, in person or through video conference.
