The main objective of the Master of Astronomy is to complement and extend the training of graduate students in astronomy, physics, mathematics and related fields. In particular, in order to improve their preparation for a research career in Astronomy, through their subsequent enrolment in a Doctoral Programme in Astronomy.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the Master in Astronomy must hold a first cycle degree (minimum of 180 ECTS credits), whose Study Plan includes at least 45 ECTS credits in mathematics and physics, including a minimum of 15 ECTS credits in each of these scientific areas.

Criteria for Selection and Ranking

Final classification obtained in the first cycle degree.

Any tie between candidates will be resolved in favor of the candidate whose first cycle degree study plan contains the most ECTS credits in Astronomy.

• Application Dates 2015-2016
• The University of Porto has a Luso-French Double-Degree in accordance with the Université Paul Sabatier-Toulouse III, França, where the Master Sciences, technologie, santé mention Physique et Astrophysique takes place. The student enrolled on this programme will attend one academic year in each university, receiving the master's of science degree from each institution.
• Master’s degree will be lectured in English and the Thesis must be written in English as well.
