The cycle of studies consists of:
a) A doctorate course (does not grant a degree) consisting of an organised set of curricular units aimed at research training, corresponding to 60 ECTS. Upon completion, it will confer a doctorate course in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution, not granting a degree.
b) An original thesis especially carried out for this purpose, corresponding to 180 ECTS, approved by public defence. The successful completion of the cycle of studies grants the Doctor's Degree in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution.
The Coordinating Committee of the Doctoral Programme will determine the specific nature of the advanced training that the student must conclude in the third cycle of studies, which will follow a curricular structure common to all doctoral students, although its contents (distributed among the various curricular units, and research activities), will be specified according to the objectives the student must achieve, allowing the development of the necessary skills to solve the problem(s) dealt with within the scope of the doctoral thesis. Credit recognition may be given to one or several curricular units at the level of the third cycle of studies if the student has obtained previous training in those subjects.
