The cycle of studies encompasses two alternative paths: Nanomaterials Science and Technology (without specialization) and Nanomaterials Science and Technology - Specialization in Functional Materials and Interfaces for Sustainability, which are organized distinctly.

In the Nanomaterials Science and Technology (without specialization) path, the cycle of studies consists of:
a) a specialization course, consisting of an organized set of curricular units corresponding to 60 ECTS credits, which awards a Specialization in Nanomaterials Science and Technology (but not the Master's degree);
b) a curricular unit to prepare for the dissertation or internship, called Dissertation/Internship Project, with 9 ECTS and three compulsory curricular units, corresponding to a total of 15 ECTS and an optional curricular unit (QACUP and/or DP/CTT) with 6 ECTS;
c) a Dissertation of a scientific nature, or an Internship of a professional nature, the object of a final report, original and specially carried out for this purpose, to which correspond 30 ECTS of the total 120 ECTS credits of the study cycle, whose defense in public tests will allow, together with the approval of the remaining ECTS credits, the obtaining of the Master's Degree in Nanomaterials Science and Technology.

In the Nanomaterials Science and Technology - Specialization in Functional Materials and Interfaces for Sustainability path, which aims to integrate international students and mobility programs in which UPORTO participates, namely the Master Erasmus Mundus SERP, in association with the Universities of Paris-Saclay, Genoa, Adam Mickiewicz and McGill, the cycle of studies consists of:
a) a specialization course, consisting of an organized set of curricular units corresponding to 60 ECTS credits, which awards a Specialization in Nanomaterials Science and Technology - Specialization in Functional Materials and Interfaces for Sustainability (but not the Master's degree);
b) three compulsory curricular units, corresponding to a total of 12 ECTS, two optional curricular units (Q/FIS/CC) corresponding to a total of 12 ECTS and one optional curricular unit (QACUP and/or DP/CTT) with 6 ECTS;
c) a Dissertation of a scientific nature, or an Internship of a professional nature, the object of a final report, original and specially carried out for this purpose, corresponding to 30 ECTS of the total 120 ECTS credits of the study cycle, whose defense in public exams will allow, together with the approval of the remaining ECTS credits, the obtaining of the Master's Degree in Nanomaterials Science and Technology with specialization in Functional Materials and Interfaces for Sustainability.

The list of optional curricular units presented illustrates what is currently on offer and may be subject to changes, provided they are approved by the Faculty's Scientific bodies.
