It is intended that at the end of this course students will be able to discuss the fundamentals of science communication, analyze the national and international reality of science communication, know models and appropriate communication techniques for different audiences and science communication initiatives. Evaluation of specific science communication initiatives will also be considered.

Multimedia in Science Education and Communication

It is intended that at the end of this course students will be able to build and exploit multimedia resources, which foster effective learning of Physics and Chemistry syllabus and also promote the dissemination of science by the school and local community.

The main goal of the course is to create a discussion and reflection forum around some fundamental issues concerning the teaching and learning of mathematics, as well as some issues related to the importance of (public) spaces of dissemination of mathematics to school students as well as to the general public.

EC/DC4008 - ECTS
The main objective of this curricular unit (UC) is to promote student awareness of the important role that science teaching and dissemination have in society, involving different areas of knowledge and technology, often in an interdisciplinary way, as well as in the development of modern societies. .
Activities involving the teaching and dissemination of science and technology promote not only interdisciplinarity but also collaborative and cooperative work between students, critical reasoning, decision making, creativity and problem solving, among other skills. . Therefore, at the end of this curricular unit the student must:
- Know how to give examples of the importance of science and/or technology in modern industrialized societies, and in the Portuguese reality in particular;
- Identify manifestations of interdisciplinarity in current Portuguese society, both in teaching and in the dissemination of science;
- Know how to discuss the possible impact that your own dissertation work could have on your personal development as a future professional in teaching or disseminating science and in society in general.
