Doctoral Program in Applied Mathematics

General information

Official Code: PA28
Acronym: PDMATAPL

Certificates

  • Applied Mathematics (240 ECTS credits)
  • Specialization in Applied Mathematics (60 ECTS credits)

Courses Units

Métodos Espetrais Numéricos

M6109 - ECTS To solve numerically partial differential equations of the type advection/diffusion with 1, 2 or 3 spatial dimensions using fast Fourier transforms. The stability of the different numerical algorithms for the time evolution is also studied.

Generalized Linear Models

M6024 - ECTS
1. Training for regression analysis involving responses
following a distribution belonging to the exponential
family (generalized linear models) 2. Understanding the estimation processes used in
generalized linear models 3. Implementation of statistical analysis corresponding
to the models studied in an appropriate software 4. Promotion of the student's critical spirit and
autonomy

Advanced Topics in Dynamics and Geometry

M6002 - ECTS General knowledge and uniformisation of skills in Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems and Differential Geometry.

Advanced Topics in Probability and Statistics

M6001 - ECTS To review and develop the fundamental concepts, ideas and principles of the theory of probability and statistics.

Statistical Methods in Epidemiology

M6022 - ECTS The curricular unit aims to equip students with the skills needed to correctly and confidently analyse and interpret data from case-control and cross-sectional studies, mainly through regression methods.

Logistic Regression and Survival Analysis

M6026 - ECTS The aim of the course is to introduce different methods for estimation of parameters in logistic regression models under different contexts.

Remark: The students were interested in studying  logistic regression models hence no survival analysis will be considered in this edition of the course.

Bifurcation Theory

M6034 - ECTS
Knowledge of some of the important methods
and results of bifurcation theory.

Topics in Turbulence

M6091 - ECTS Study of the Navier-Stokes equations as well as the phenomenology and geometry of turbulence in two and three dimensions.
