Objectives

The students are challenged to develop a research proposal in a subject framed within the field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology supervised by researchers of Mathematics or Computer Science and Biology or Biochemistry.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students of the UC Master Dissertation Project in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology should be able to prepare a research project proposal, addressing the following topics:

  1. review of the literature on the chosen topic;

  2. a detailed description of a research plan that addresses the problem to be studied, its importance, the working hypothesis, and preliminary results;

  3. the methodology to be adopted;

  4. the tasks to be performed and the expected results;

  5. timeline indicating the milestones and deliverables;

  6. bibliography

Program

The topics of this UC are selected from a portfolio of proposals collected from researchers who develop scientific work in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology, and subsequently validated by the Scientific Commission of the specialization course in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

The topics should have an interdisciplinary profile by integrating a component markedly in the areas of biology / biochemistry and another in the areas of mathematics / science of computers.
