Objectives

It is intended that the students of this course acquire essential knowledge for understanding fundamental issues of the world today related to Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry and recognize the importance of modern technologies, their energy applications, and their use in various fields such as medicine, biology, chemistry, astronomy, archaeology, geology, etc.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students are expected to understand and interpret the mechanisms of different types of nuclear reactions, as well as their application in various fields of science.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical classes and practical-theoretical classes.

Theoretical classes in accordance with the above-mentioned program. In general, the classes are conducted to create a spirit of debate and discussion with students. Classes relating to Chapter 8 will be presented by the students, based on the written work they developed throughout the semester.

In the practical-theoretical classes, numerical problems related to the topics taught on theoretical classes are discussed and solved.

Eligibility for exams

Students must attend, at least, 75% of practical-theoretical classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final grade is assigned considering the mark of the final written exam (70%) and the mark of the written work (30%). To obtain approval, each of these marks must be equal to or greater than 8, and the final grade cannot be lower than 10.

There will be two optional tests during the semester which will allow the exemption from final exam provided that the average of the test scores is equal to or greater than 10. To be able to take the second test, students must have a score greater than or equal to 8 in the first.
