Objectives

To confer the students basic/introductory experimental and theoretical skills in Organic Chemistry.

Learning outcomes and competences

By the end of the course, the student should have acquired and understood basic concepts in Organic Chemistry, as well as acquired basic skills in the Organic Chemistry laboratory. The student will have acquired competences in

 

1) identification of the main functional groups in organic compounds and how those groups affect compounds' physical and chemical properties;

 

2) basic organic nomenclature and stereochemistry;

 

3) recognizing main types of organic chemical reactions, their relevant intermediates and pathways;

 

4) establishing basic structure-reactivity relationships.
